David Duggan is right about the distinction between piqued and peaked, and I am grateful for his response. I had not thought about it.

However, in my case "interest peaked" may be correct, since I only have two states of interest, either zero or peaked.

JE comments: When something "peaks," it also means that it's downward from there.  "Peak oil" comes to mind, although we never seem to have reached it.

Tor, you're an all or nothing kind of guy, and I respect that.  Me?  I'm moderately interested in just about everything, and relish the chance to comment with a quip or two.  That's why I love editing WAIS!
