Tartu University to Stop Admitting Russian, Belarusian Students (Tom Hashimoto, -UK, 03/22/22 10:03 am)The University of Tartu has treated education as a sanction. Any thoughts?
JE comments: Tartu's rector has said that the university's existing Russian students will be allowed to stay, and there is the additional complication of potential applicants who hold Russian-Estonian dual citizenship. I'm on the fence about sanctioning education. International students ideally lead to understanding and harmony, but at the same time, Putin needs to feel the pressure of additional discontent at home. How will he explain that the doors of one of Eastern Europe's most prestigious universities are closed to his people?
Tom, can you give us the perspective from universities in Poland and Lithuania? Will they be following suit?
