PostFor Biden, It's Columbus Day AND Indigenous Peoples' Day (Silvia Ribelles de la Vega, USA, 10/12/21 11:34 am)
Thank you to Enrique Torner for bringing the issue of poor Columbus to WAIS.
To me, the most interesting part (and truly striking, if you are a history purist) is in the presidential proclamation that came after the one shared on this thread, especially in the part where he (or whoever it was that wrote this proclamation) describes what followed after that first voyage of Columbus, the "first of many Italian explorers to arrive in (....) the Americas."
Pasen y vean:
JE comments: Silvia, you've given us the other half of the story! Uncle Joe wants it both ways: it's Indigenous People's Day, but you also don't want to alienate the Italian-Americans. Note that in both proclamations, Spain gets the short shrift.
