PostAnthony D'Amato Remembered (Istvan Simon, USA, 04/17/18 9:34 am)
My sincerest condolences to Anthony D'Amato's family for his passing away. (See David Duggan, 12 April.)
Anthony and I became friends during his tenure as a WAISer. In fact, in 2013 when I was on the East Coast, I was planning a visit to him in Chicago. But regrettably it never happened. Though we became WAISer friends and exchanged numerous private e-mails, it seems that Anthony took exception to a remark of mine in WAIS in which I sharply disagreed with him on some matter involving International Law. Though I never regretted what I had written in WAIS, I did regret his resignation from WAIS where I highly valued his unconventional input.
Anyway, I liked him immensely, and mourn his death. Anthony D'Amato, RIP my WAISer friend. We shall miss you.
JE comments: Prof. D'Amato could be, well, prickly. At least he was in his dealings with me. However, his brief stay with WAIS will always be a cherished part of our history. Thank you for this kind tribute, Istvan.
