WAIS Golden Jubilee Presenters: Response Needed (John Eipper, USA, 09/28/15 5:51 pm)

The WAIS Golden Jubilee, "Hegemony:  Past, Present, Future," kicks off in less than two weeks, on Saturday, 10 October, at the Bechtel International Center, Stanford. I am presently piecing together the conference program, which will have at least 20 presentations.  (Two are still in the not-quite-definite stage.)

If you are due to give a talk, please check the following list to see if you are included. Also, if you wish to present on the day other than the one assigned, let me know as soon as possible. I need to get the definitive conference program to the printer by Thursday, October 1st.

The conference fee of $125 will include a breakfast spread each day, two catered lunches, and a banquet on Saturday night. WAISer John Torok will be staffing the registration table at Bechtel beginning at 9 AM on Saturday.

I have heard from several WAISers who will be attending but not presenting. There is still time to join us as an "auditor." As you saw a few minutes ago, Clyde McMorrow is the latest to come aboard.  Clyde will drive to campus in his Sunbeam Tiger. Splendid. This, after Martin Packard's 1937 Packard convertible, must be the second-coolest car in WAISworld.

Check for your name, and let me know what corrections to make. See you soon! Pax et lux. John

  • WAIS Golden Jubilee; Directions and Dress Code; from Ric Mauricio (John Eipper, USA 10/07/15 6:36 AM)
    Ric Mauricio writes:

WAIS '15 promises to be a very exciting weekend. I'm looking forward to the chance to meet those WAISers I've admired online.

Is there a map online showing where on the campus the Bechtel International Center is? Parking?

And lastly, dress code? Black tie? Suit? Jeans and dress shirt (typical Silicon Valley code)?

JE comments: Will be great to see you again, Ric! I hadn't thought about the dress code.  In the old days Prof. Hilton required a jacket and tie for gentlemen.  But it's been half a century. Let's just say Silicon Valley casual. Hot weather is predicted, so I'll probably go with a shirt and tie.  No tweed professor jacket.  Don't want to sweat like Bob Seger on the live feed.

How to find Bechtel? Follow this link:

Parking at the Tresidder lot is spacious--and free on weekends. There are also a few metered spots directly across the street, but they fill up quickly.

An urgent request:  Any vegetarians in WAISworld?  I need to give the meat-free count to Saturday's banquet caterers ASAP.
