PostNew Immunity Provisions Cast Doubts on Greek Efforts to Eliminate Corruption: *NYT* (Paul Levine, Denmark, 10/17/14 5:43 am)
A recent New York Times article suggests that Greece hasn't changed despite its promises of reform.
Indeed, the actions of the Greek elites indicate that in Athens it's business as usual. Anecdotal accounts from friends and relatives confirm that, alas, not much has changed under the crisis. No wonder that northern European countries in the Eurozone don't want to throw good money after bad, unless there is real evidence of a transformation in Greek culture and practice.
JE comments: Here's the article:
Buried deep in an omnibus budget bill are grants of immunity for all sorts of state employees, who may have plundered pensions, school building funds, etc. So don't expect to see any "truth and reconciliation" in Greece.
I hope Harry Papasotiriou will comment.
