Did Rumsfeld Know About the WMD Lie? From Gary Moore (John Eipper, USA, 07/08/21 11:10 am)

Gary Moore writes:

I second David Krieger (July 7) on Rumsfeld: If Rumsfeld didn't know the WMD rationale for the Iraq war was fake, then he was using a monumental amount of willful blindness not to see the plethora of administration frauds supporting it, like sending Colin Powell to the UN with an aerial recon photo of an innocuous weather balloon station in Iraq, and demanding he tell the General Assembly it's a secret doomsday ranch.

This was only one example of cases where any interested and knowledgeable observer--let alone an insider--should have smelled a rat, just on the face of things.  And many did. It's an open question how included Rumsfeld was in the tight Neocon circle that was running the frauds--but they were in DoD, under Rumsfeld. It's not even clear how deep Cheney was. Was he really de facto president while President Alfred E. Neuman grinned "What, me worry?" Critics haven't hesitated to say so, and it looks like maybe they're right, but I'm unaware of the final analysis. Has history provided it?

JE comments:  Now that Rumsfeld belongs to the ages, whether he knew will forever remain a known unknown.  Regarding Alfred E. Neuman, my favorite childhood magazine Mad dedicated covers to two "Neumanized" presidents:  Bush II and Obama.  Compare below:  the likenesses are uncanny.  Possibly because W and Barry are tenth cousins?
