PostEarly Bird Satellite Turns 50 (Eugenio Battaglia, Italy, 06/28/15 7:24 am)
Today (28 June) marks 50 years from the day in which, thanks to the satellite Early Bird, it was possible to communicate between the USA and Europe.
It worked for 48 months and it is orbiting in the sky to this day.
JE comments: Early Bird could handle 240 two-way phone conversations, or a single television channel. It was primitive by our standards, but a remarkable technological breakthrough for the times.
And here we are, Eugenio in Italy and I in California, communicating almost instantaneously via WAISworld. In 1965 this would have been nothing short of a miracle. To me, today, it still is.
