AirAsia Flight Missing over Java Sea (Bienvenido Macario, USA, 12/29/14 4:08 am)

Just as the traumatic year for Malaysia-based airlines is about to end, another commercial jetliner, AirAsia Flight QZ8501, disappeared about an hour and half after take-off from Surubaya, Indonesia. The Singapore-bound Airbus 320-200 with 161 passengers and crew lost contact five minutes after the pilot sought permission to deviate from 32,000 feet and climb to 38,000 feet to avoid storm clouds ahead.

To follow-up on the effects of two Malaysia Airline disasters, here are some updates:

Twin disasters spark Malaysia Airlines crew resignations

Nearly 200 cabin crew have resigned from Malaysia Airlines following the two deadly tragedies which have hit the carrier this year, it said Tuesday, and some reportedly cited fears for their safety.

Malaysia Airlines Is Burning $2 Million Every Day as Flights Go Empty

JE comments: Another air tragedy comes very close to Malaysia, although this time it was an Indonesian flight en route to Singapore.  The plane seems to have vanished altogether--a haunting sequel to the Malaysia 370 incident in March.

I just checked, and Indonesia AirAsia is partly Malaysian-owned.  In the meantime, I don't see how Malaysia Airlines can stay in business.  Note that it was flying in the red even before the March and July disasters.  Add to this the fall in world oil prices, and the Malaysian government won't be able to prop up its flag carrier for long.
