AFGHANISTAN: Walk ou on the war (Ronald Hilton, USA, 10/08/01 12:58 am)The following post is being circulated among foreign students at Stanford and elsewhere. Latin American countries have no intention of providing serious support to the US-led coalition's effort, making it obvious that NATO provides the only solid basis for US policies. Mexico's Fox made a trip to Washington to see his friend Bush. It was generally considered pointless. My problem with the "Peace and Justice" folks is that they do not propose a well-thought out alternative to military action. I leave it to WAISers to decide whether it is proper for Latin American students to become involved. Given the mixed attitude toward Latin Americans in this country, it would seem imprudent. Here is the post:
Peace & justice folks at Stanford,
Haven't yet read what you're all planning in the coming days, but here's an attempt on a walkout by Berkeley today.
Responses to the bombings were incredible in SF: more than 1,000 at the Mission High teach-in (which included Stanford's own Joel Beinin); about as much at the emergency rally at Powell & Market (600+ of whom marched to the teach-in), then a rally at 24th & Mission.
