Post"Le Debat," Pepe le Pew and "Cancel Culture" (Francisco Wong-Diaz, USA, 03/17/21 3:07 am)
After Pepé le Pew is canceled, the debate takes off, too.
The journal Le Débat closed (see Edward Jajko, March 10th) before they contracted the deadly American "identity ignoramus virus" and "political correct syndrome."
They are both another example of why contemporary American brain-dead moronic stupidity gives new life to "après moi le deluge."
Au revoir Le Débat!
JE comments: I somehow missed Pepé Le Pew's recent "cancellation," so I Googled it. I assumed his retirement was for perpetuating negative stereotypes about French hygiene, but Warner Bros axed the iconic skunk for being "rapey." Since his introduction in 1945, Pepé has been consistent with his message: Non with the ladies really means oui. This thinking may have been OK in the Mad Men era, but not today.
Is Warner Bros guilty of political correctness? The more likely explanation is financial: fear of protests and litigation.
