In the Covid Era, Government Has Failed Us (A. J. Cave, USA, 01/13/21 3:37 am)

It has been a year since I started to scream about the highly contagious "novel coronavirus" spreading fast out of China. No one wanted to hear it at the time. My own family and friends told me I was overheating and overreacting. Now, a year later, you can call that novel virus by its name.

During the massive pandemic lockdown in California last year, this year's budgetary shortfall was estimated at $50 billion. The estimate was wrong. California is actually swimming in money and based on the proposed 2021 budget, we have a surplus of $15 billion. That's thanks to taxes on the increase in the wealth of the already wealthy Californians by over $180 billion during the time millions of Americans in and out of California have been pushed out of jobs and into poverty and food lines. Many have died. May their memories be a blessing and a warning.

So, before unpacking WAISers' views on President Trump, and broader national and international coverage and opinions of him and his presidency, let me ask you a more fundamental question first:

What do you do (or don't) when your government fails you?

JE comments:  We've witnessed two historic answers to this question.  1)  Vote the government out (November 3rd, 2020) or 2) Try to overthrow it (January 6th, 2021).  However, I sense that A. J. Cave is referring to the pandemic horrors taking place in California.  A. J., your governor, Gavin Newsom, is facing a lot of heat for the state's chaotic Covid response.  What can you tell us about Option 3:  the movement to recall him?

One thing we can all conclude about the Novel Coronavirus:  It ain't "novel" no more.
