PostBridges of San Francisco: A Correction (Edward Jajko, USA, 09/15/20 4:54 am)
The bridge depicted in the video forwarded by Paul Pitlick (September 13th) is the Bay Bridge, between San Francisco and Oakland, not the Golden Gate Bridge.
JE comments: I should have known better, as crossing the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge is one of my earliest childhood memories. (The Eippers lived in Pinole, Contra Costa County, through 1970 or '71.) I thought it was really cool to lie on the parcel shelf of our 1963 Thunderbird, and watch the bridge span zip by through the back window. It's amazing how any of us survived those reckless pre-restraint days.
The Bay Bridge is four times as long, twice as busy, and slightly older than the Golden Gate. Why doesn't it get the same respect? My theory: steel gray doesn't have the same "pop" as that zesty orange.
Here's the video. Sadly, everything in the Bay Area is orange at present.
