Maelzel, Moscheles, and Meyerbeer (Edward Jajko, USA, 06/26/20 7:42 am)

Patrick Mears (June 23rd) skips over Maelzel and Moscheles in his discussion of Beethoven.

Maelzel is known to every piano student as the inventor of the metronome, the pyramidal Maelzel's Metronome. Moscheles was a prominent pianist and conductor.

JE comments:  We've put WAIS on hold while we pay tribute to David Pike, but Ed Jajko has sent a post that would have greatly interested our much-missed historian-musician.  I added Meyerbeer into the mix, as the trio sound like they belong together.

Remember David Pike's final WAIS post?  It revealed both his breadth of interests and biting wit:  "Putin steps into an elevator" (https://waisworld.org/go.jsp?id=02a&objectType=post&o=137178&objectTypeId=100995&topicId=126 ).

So how about "Maelzel, Moscheles, and Meyerbeer walk into a bar"?  Meyer obviously ordered a beer, but the other two possibly went with the gin gimlet, one of David's favorite libations.  Or is it a giblet?  Are they the same thing?
