PostNazism and Christianity (Tor Guimaraes, USA, 02/13/18 7:15 am)
When someone tells me s(he) belongs to a particular religion, it means very little to me. After many years of observation, I concluded that only the person's behavior tells the truth about a person's religion.
In the case of Hitler and the Nazis, their religion was paganism and Germanic mythology. Apparently Himmler was the high priest in charge of reviving any myths of racial superiority and heroism. They were stretching, begging, and stealing anything legitimate to support their crazy philosophy. They adopted Wagner as their musical hero, bastardized Friedrich Nietzsche's theory about the ubermensch to support their own.
One thing is for sure, they had nothing to do with Christianity and actually got in trouble with the German people early on when they were tried to eliminate Christian doctrine from the German education system.
JE comments: For his part, wasn't Goebbels a practicing Catholic until the end? Legend has it that in an earlier life, he "almost" became a priest.
