PostSaudi-Iranian Conflict: A Prelude to War? (Istvan Simon, USA, 11/14/17 5:45 am)
In response to A. J. Cave (November 10th), there is no prelude to war; Iran and Saudi Arabia have been at war for decades.
Right now, they are at war in Yemen and Syria. They were at war in Libya recently. Nearly all the troubles in the Middle East are a product of the war between the Shia and the Sunni sponsored by Iran and Saudi Arabia, respectively.
JE comments: Proxy wars are nasty enough, but they are not full-blown hot wars between the puppetmasters. Consider the myriad US-Soviet examples of 1945-'91.
I was hoping A. J. Cave's provocative theory would inspire more WAISer responses. So...are the Saudis and the Iranians on the eve of war?
