PostWill Brussels Attack Provoke Right-Wing Backlash? (John Heelan, -UK, 03/24/16 12:10 pm)
JE asked on 23 March about the outcome of the Brussels tragedy. Will there be increased Continental cooperation, or further fragmentation?
Regrettably I am pessimistic. Sensing the general anger around me about immigrant-linked events in Paris, Germany and now Brussels, I fear there will be a violent right-wing backlash against Muslim communities in Europe.
Of course, if so, it plays into the hands of the ISIS strategy of turning communities against each other. Further, I sense that the latest carnage will add even more impetus to Brexit to control immigrant flows into the UK.
JE comments: It is perhaps no coincidence that the latest strike was against the capital of the EU. But how would European disintegration "help" the ISIS cause--beyond the nebulous goal of generating havoc and chaos?
