Re: The Jewish Race (Robert Wgealey, US) (John Eipper, USA, 10/30/06 1:33 pm)

Robert Whealey writes: The King James Version uses the word "nation." This word was introduced into the English language about 1534. The original Hebrew talked about tribes or clans--Philistines, Amalakites Canaanites, etc. Race becomes an issue after Darwin, and after the Portuguese began the slave trade.
As an American of mixed European descent, it seems to me that Zionism is a retreat to tribalism. Although the motives were religious, there is a kind of rough racial self-selection among all Europeans from 300 to Hitler's day. From 1880 to 1945, "nation,"race", "religion," and "language" were terribly confused. Apparently Christopher Jones, has not yet recovered, for what ever reason, from the tensions of World War II.
