PostDoug Jones Victorious in Alabama; Death of SF Mayor Ed Lee (A. J. Cave, USA, 12/14/17 3:44 am)
The number 13 is considered unlucky by some, and sure enough 13 December has turned out to be unlucky for the President, the Republicans and what's his name who was running for the Alabama Senate seat. I wasn't holding my breath, but Alabamans (or Alabamians), or more accurately close to 98% of Black (or African-American) voters in Alabama voted for the Democrat Doug Jones.
On the local front, 12 was the unlucky number for Ed Lee, the Mayor of San Francisco, who died of heart attack on 12 December while shopping for groceries at a Safeway supermarket. I guess food shopping can be hazardous to your health. London Breed, the President of SF board of supervisors, is the temporary mayor until special elections next year.
Ed Lee was a friend of the high-tech giants and during his tenure San Francisco became a tech hub, doubling housing prices, rental costs and the homeless population. We have to wait and see what the gods have planned for the Babylon by the Bay.
JE comments: It's been a week of momentous political events. Did anyone in WAISworld personally know Mayor Lee? My condolences to Lee's family and the people of San Francisco.
In Alabama, the infamous Roy Moore has still not conceded to Doug Jones, although the state Republican party will not support Moore's call for a recount. Senator-Elect Jones is a rising star in the Democratic party, which is sorely in need of champions. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is nearly as happy as Jones himself, as the Republican "brand" in the Senate will not be burdened by a loose cannon and accused child molester.
