WAISers are well aware of Eugenio Battaglia's political views. An ultra-rightist in the US would not be amused by this cartoon, but Eugenio sent it my way. I can see Istvan Simon, who never agrees with Eugenio, nodding for once in approval. This fact alone is worthy of WAISly reflection.
Is the US on the Verge of Becoming a "Developing" Nation?

It is amazing how a simple cartoon and a few facts can capture an obvious reality. (See Eugenio Battaglia, 5 December.) It seems as if the lobbyists have been able to write their almost perfect tax bill.
I had been reserving judgment on Trump politics until the hard evidence on the important social economic issues became visible. This evidence is in, and it is very negative for the US middle class. The rest of the Republican agenda with enormous strategic implications will be unabashedly going after Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
America's enemies should be very happy for the long run. In one or two generations our beloved USA will become a perpetually "developing" nation like Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico.
JE comments: Can you be "developing" after you've already developed? I have no answer, but Tor Guimaraes raises a bigger question of the Trump economic scheme: are entitlements slated for the chopping block? Senator Marco Rubio made this prediction a few days ago:
